Wham Bam Tauranga Poetry Slam!

Motif Poetry is proud to present the second annual Wham Bam Tauranga Poetry Slam! This isn't the poetry you learnt at school. It's alive. It's energetic. It explodes from the mic and flies around the room.

Sonnets, rap, activism, comedy, all styles can take part in this fun format. Our poets will battle it out and by the end of the night we will crown a new Tauranga Slam Champ!

Get ready for three rounds of audience-judged, original work from established and emerging local performers, the winner will go on the represent Tauranga at the national NZ Poetry Slam!

There will also be a performance by reigning 2021 champion-Ronna Grace Funtelar.

We’re now taking signups to compete, so see below for more details. We’d love to hear your poetry.

Age guideline 14+

For Poets:

Motif Poetry are now taking signups for the Tauranga Poetry Slam 2022!

Slam is a fun game that we play with our poems, with random audience judges, time constraints, and a high energy, supportive crowd. We will crown a Tauranga Slam Champion by the end of the night but the point is not the points, the point is the poetry!

You can email ben@motifpoetry.co.nz to sign up. This is a 3-round elimination slam, so please bring 3 poems just in case. Each poem must be 3 minutes each, or under. No props, no costumes, no music, reading your poem from paper or phone is fine.

No punching down is allowed in the poetry. No hate speech, racism, sexism, ableism, other 'isms' or transphobia. Most importantly, have fun!

Full rules can be found here.
