Cian Parker’s acclaimed autobiographical show about growing up on the mean streets of Kirikiriroa Hamilton in the 1990s is a heartfelt, hilarious, and utterly charming tribute to the power of wāhine toa. This is a story about the strength of a woman; and the gift of strength from one woman to another.
Cian Parker has teamed up with theatre maker Laura Haughey, who brings her unique physical approach to storytelling in this original, big-hearted and distinctive work. Written and performed by Parker, with live music by Andy Duggan, Sorry For Your Loss is the story of a young woman who is unexpectedly introduced to a father and family she never knew she had. Forced to navigate the opinions of her mother, her elderly neighbour, and her classmates on her way to reclaiming her whakapapa.
“A beautiful heartfelt piece that defies you not to be moved…With a wonderfully light touch, Parker finds her way into our hearts with both her words and her performance.” – Victor Rodger
