Let's Dance!
We’ve got a terrific line-up of shows that explore contemporary dance and movement so thought we’d share some extra details with you.

Cudo has been commissioned as part of this year’s Tempo Dance Festival and brings its youthful exuberance to Baycourt on October 21. Acrobatic, robotic and liquid hip-hop hybrid movement explore the vast possibilities of bodies in space and time as dancers create and react to live music and graphic visuals. Some of New Zealand’s top urban and contemporary dancers, including members of internationally acclaimed hip-hop crew Identity Dance Company, the Cesan Brothers and Matthew Moore, are among the cast. Thanks to Taylor Brothers Transport for sponsoring Cudo at the festival.

The Creamery and Cheese (both Oct 25) are the new shows from the fertile mind of Wellington choreographer Sacha Copland (Back of the Bus, The Wine Project) – the former for older children and adults, the latter for younger children. The shows form part of her Artisan series which has so far looked at the worlds of bread and wine with Sacha now turning her attention to cheese-making, which she researched in Noyers-sur-Serein in north-central France. As well as dance, the shows include live music, comedy and cheese making! The Dominion-Post reviewer wrote of The Creamery: “… the wonderful build towards the hysterical finale, where adults return to delightful and delighted childhood, as they heave handfuls of salt, herbs and bunches of parsley at the cast and those sitting on stage. Although by this time no one is really sitting. Everyone is up dancing. Worth the price of admission.” Thank you to TECT for sponsoring our performance of Cheese.

Renowned dance company Footnote is bringing a double-bill to the festival - a show each by choreographers Sarah Foster-Sproull and Switzerland-based Kiwi Emma Murray (who has been here working with the company). The pair have distinct ‘styles’ hence the show’s apt title of Contrast (Oct 27) and should be a fun evening for lovers of contemporary dance.
