Reb Fountain - Thursday 24 October - 8:30pm

A pre-eminent singer and performer, Reb has for years been the musicians’ secret. She has performed with Neil Finn, The Eastern, The Warratahs, Marlon Williams, Don McGlashan, Finn Andrews/The Veils, Tami Neilson and Julia Deans.

Adam McGrath (The Eastern) describes her as Lucky Strike-cool and Jamesons-raw, with a voice born of fire and river run, mountain strong and feather soft. Her release Hopeful and Hopeless is, according to some, the most perfect EP ever made. It won the Tui for Best Country Album/Artist 2018 and Reb took out the APRA Best Country Song 2018 for its title track.

A Synthesized Universe - Saturday 26 October - 8pm

An immersive experience, A Synthesized Universe combines live music with custom animation, otherworldly video manipulations, and a flight through the known universe.

Singer-songwriter Anthonie Tonnon originally developed this work for a planetarium, working with animator Andrew Charlton and Otago Museum. In this newly expanded version, he has incorporated the holographic-like techniques of video and installation artist, Erica Sklenars, aka Lady Lazerlight.

Throughout the show, Tonnon and his visual operator perform together in real time, with room for improvisation. A Synthesized Universe is Tonnon’s own charmed blend of science, surreal storytelling and physical movement, combined with Charlton’s animations and Sklenars’ distortion of visual reality, making for a multi-sensory experience.

Mr Red Light - Tuesday 29 October - 7pm

Mr Red Light is a man who attracts bad luck. So naturally, when he tries to rob a bank he fails miserably – and ends up in a pie shop dealing with three very uncooperative hostages and the world’s worst police negotiator.

As time ticks by, Mr Red Light and his captives play a game of getting to know you. And mysteriously, Mr Red Light seems to know more about their lives than is possible.Wild slapstick, the meaning of life, falling in love – suddenly the pie shop is a place where anything can happen.

Please Note: Contains coarse language, scenes with a gun and gun fire.

Rants in the Dark - Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 October - 8pm

The hilarious unfiltered truth on parenting, courtesy of Wellington blogger Emily Writes’ best-selling book Rants in the Dark, stars Renee Lyons, Bronwyn Turei and Amelia Reid-Meredith.

Honest, authentic and laugh-out-loud funny, the play revels in the raw truth of parenthood (and grandparenthood) and its ‘mess of contradictions’. It is a biting antidote to judgmental supermarket-tutterers and plane-smirkers everywhere. Emily’s heartfelt and hilarious writing explores her parenting experience, offering comfort and connection to other exhausted parents all over the world.

Milly Tabak & The Miltones - Friday 1 November - 8:30pm

Milly Tabak and The Miltones are known as the masters of blending modern blues-rock with the nostalgia of a vintage record collection. The Auckland five-piece have been turning heads with their powerful stage presence and moody melodies since forming in 2014. They have performed at WOMAD and as support to Bryan Ferry and Mick Fleetwood.

Their debut recording (produced by Ben Edwards – Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson) earned them last year’s Best Independent Debut Album at the Taite Music Awards and was labelled “the freshest sound in New Zealand popular music right now” by the NZ Herald.

They’ve just finished recording their second album, set for release early next year, and will provide a sneak preview of songs that ramp up the ‘moody’ with a dash of soul.
