Established in 1999, the Tauranga Arts Festival has become one of New Zealand’s leading Festivals. Escape! is a separate literary weekend which happens over Queens Birthday Weekend in alternate years.

The primary purpose of the Festival Director role is to lead and manage the artistic vision and delivery of initially Escape! 2020 and the 2021 Tauranga Arts Festival in accordance with the strategic direction set by the Board. The contract is part-time (.75/year) for a 2 year period but the term may be extended by mutual agreement for subsequent festivals.

This role includes working with the Board on strategy, curating the programs, funder relationships, stakeholder relationships, financial management and prudent budgeting (including existing and new funding sources), operational and production management, HR management, community relations, marketing media and communications.

Working with support staff, contractors and volunteers the Festival Director is responsible for delivering an exceptional festival that enhances the proud tradition of the Trust.
