NZTrio returns to the Tauranga Arts Festival with an exhilarating musical feast.
Violinist Justine Cormack, cellist Ashley Brown and pianist Sarah Watkins first joined forces in 2002 and were Ensemble in Residence at The University of Auckland from 2004- 2009. From the outset their artistry, intensity and approachability have captivated music lovers throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America, the US and Europe.
The trio’s dynamic programme opens with Ravel’s gloriously colourful Piano Trio, setting the scene perfectly for Entering the Stream by Indonesia-born Wayan Yudane, an exotic work that evokes the sounds of Balinese gamelan and windchimes. Drama and emotion pour out of The year Without a Summer, written especially for NZTrio by Australian Stuart Greenbaum, before Brahms’ luscious C Major Piano Trio brings the evening to a joyful close.
